The Countdown

In 25 and a half hours, the embargo will be lifted on a devastating new study in Nature magazine. If you’ve been following the barefoot-running debate at all, you’ve read lots of hand-wringing from podiatrists, and shoe companies, and Runner’s World editors about how “we need more data. we just don’t know if bare feet are safe.” Of course, the lack of studies doesn’t mean they’ve stopped hawking running shoes; it’s only bare feet, which have worked just dandy for two million years, that they feel need more vetting. Well, if it’s data they want, it’s about to come down like hellfire. 25 hours and twenty minutes…
